The Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IOPAN) conducts scientific research in shelf seas and coastal regions in the Baltic and European Arctic Seas. IOPAN is the lead partner in the CHEMSEA project.
In addition to this leadership role, IOPAN oceanographers will participate in the physical characterisation of dumpsites using hydroacoustic methods and preparing models describing potential CWA leakage. Marine ecologists and geochemists will deal with site characterisation and risk assessment. IOPAN will provide the project with a scientific vessel for conducting offshore surveys. The IO PAS hydroacoustics department will coordinate sampling activities. As lead partner, IOPAN hosted CHEMSEA's kick-off conference in Sopot.
