The European CBRNE Center is a research consortium consisting of Umeå University, The Swedish Defence Research Agency, Västerbotten County Council, the city of Umeå, the Swedish Armed Forces National CBRN Defence Centre and the Swedish National Fortification Agency. The center coordinates projects and exercises in the area of hazardous substances and conducts research and training concerning security and vulnerability relating to incidents with chemical, biological, radiological / nuclear and explosive subjects. The Center's work includes everything from smaller regional projects to larger international EU project and task assignments.
In CHEMSEA the CBRNE center will lead the activities relating to the development of guidelines and a contingency plan. The center will also use its facilities and expertise in the collection of information regarding the dumped warfare chemicals in the Baltic Sea, their amounts and history. Further, they will review the literature concerning analytical methods for CWA and their degradation products and perform toxicological studies on sediments.
